The kids' last day of school was Wednesday. We went to Summersville for the day on Thursday for a regional day. And Saturday we hit the road for the beach, beach, beach. It was weird timing, but perfect at the same time. At the end of a busy and full school year, before summer got too crazy. It was a great week out of town with rest and relaxation.
Things to remember:

I didn't take as many pictures as I would've liked to. But you can always do that. In no particular order.
We left at 6:00 am. The kids slept a chunk of the way and listened to books the rest of the time.
Kaitlin and Rusty traveled with us. Everyone had their own little space with all our stuff overflowing into ever nook and cranny. No room for stretching at all. This was actually taken when we got home. Ben's phone was dying hence only one pic with him looking fairly weird. It was fun traveling together. Ben and Rusty put together a playlist on Spotify that was 9.5 hours of music. We listened to all but 4 or 5 songs down and back.
There was lots of nail painting going on at the beach.

More nail painting. We had about 36 hours of monsoon rain. We did a lot of porch sitting which was fun and nice and relaxing. I was thankful that it wasn't a gazillion degrees.
Ted loved the dogs.

The day it stopped raining we said we were going to the beach no matter what. It was a bit chilly.
But seriously, if it's not raining you're on the beach. Because you're at the beach. Right?!?
Sweet Ellis
Everyone got in on the action of burying Sophie.
Ted did ok in can jam.
But definitely held is own in spike ball this year.
The day that it rained all day, Sophie spent the entire day in her room. She watched Disney channel all day and colored and sewed. She came upstairs for meals only. She told me it was a fabulous day because I wasn't telling her what to do and Ted wasn't bothering her. A girl just needs her space. I should do this more often myself.

We went to a great burger and shake place for dinner one night. Ted spilled some of his milkshake and Ben encouraged him to suck it up with a straw. Whatever man.

I told you it was cool a couple of days!
And then it turned beautiful again. It was really about 36-48 hours in the middle of the week that was rainy, cool and/or cloudy. The last day was superb and perfection!

I loved watching my kids play in the ocean. They had so much fun.
There's something about watching your kids have so much FUN that is encouraging and inspiring and worth all that it takes to get there.
The outdoor shower was Sophie's jam as she tended to bury herself or roll in the sand. Sand for days.
Becca & Ellis
As terrible as this picture looks, this is how Sophie spent a lot of her time. She loved checking out what was under the water and letting the waves roll over her. She loved diving into the waves and letting them take her wherever they would. I loved watching her.
Everyone got burned the first day. The disadvantage of going the beginning of June is there's not a lot of base tan to work with. And then we all started to peel.

A great week was had by all. Love these people and grateful for our time together.
Greg took some beautiful family pictures for us. We really had no plan on the clothes. Sophie wore one of her "party dresses" and got a pizza stain on it from dinner. Ted was not crazy about his "fancy clothes" but I conceded on the socks. Greg worked his camera magic and once again gave us a beautiful family photo.
A perfect week at the beach, beach, beach!
