Sophie turned 9 last week. I've read past year's blogs over the last couple of days as they've popped up on my facebook memories. Each year, I mention how funny she is, how she loves dirt and dressing up and how she's her own personal snicker's commercial when it comes to when her blood sugar is running low. She is a consistent kid if nothing else. All those things still apply.
This year I feel like Sophie has come into her own a little bit. Being 8 and in the 3rd grade was a little rough for her. It's a big transitional year from being a little kid to being a big kid. School was a little more dramatic and stressful, and the drama definitely kicked in a bit. I feel like we are ending the 8 year in a good and encouraging place.
Highlights/memorable moments of 8 included:
starting taekwondo and getting her orange belt
getting a chrome book at school and doing a lot of learning on it
running her first 5K
getting a real life big kid bike and keeping up with the rest of us
visiting washington, dc
growing a lot in her reading skills
joining the sewing club at school
having Grandma and Gary Pap in town for the fall
saranac and being on of the big kids
her mud bath a wild ridge
spending time with her friend maisie and being pen pals
growing out her hair and bangs
the great mealworm experiment
Sophie's creative side really came out this year. It's been fun to see. She wrote sweet notes to all her teachers for teacher appreciation week. She has also started listening to books and appreciates them a lot. She loves to help in the kitchen and is actually helpful. She is my fashion consultant. I really enjoy her and she makes us laugh a lot. Her stubbornness can be her downfall, but if she puts it to use, it will be a great characteristic. She has a big heart and loves to help others make wise choices (you can read that however you like!). She's a beautiful part of our family.
Sophie had a birthday weekend at the river (that's for another post), but we ended the weekend in New Martinsville. Doh made a beautiful cake with some new icing tips she got.
Isaac's birthday is two days after Sophie's so we celebrated together. (Ben's family has a lot of birthdays at the end of May!)
And what's a birthday without some silly string?!?
As is tradition, here are birthdays in order!
Happy Birthday to my best girl!
