On this, Sophie's 9 month birthday, I had to break out the 18 month shirts. Most of her 12 month shirts are entirely too tight around the midsection. I won't even talk about the pants. Anything w/o an elastic waist we don't even try anymore. She is currently mobile - but not up on her hands and knees. I always thought crawling was gross b/c they were down on the floor. Now she just drags her entire body all over the place.
A friend of ours is moving and cleaning out. Today she dropped off a stroller, carseat, and swing for baby dolls. They are so cute. And the swing is actually nicer than the swing we had for Sophie! Guess who had the most fun with it? TED. He's played with all 3 things all day. About 2 pm, Ben finally convinced him to carry around Ming Ming instead of a babydoll. Ben is less than thrilled.

The Oscar's
Every year at River Ridge Church, the staff puts on a large banquet to say "thank you" to all of our volunteers. This year was "The Oscar's" and it was actually on the evening of the Oscar's. Everyone got all dressed up,we had a professional photographer, had a catered dinner, the staff helped serve, and some awards. It was such a fun evening.
I am so thankful for my volunteers. In Family Ministry (birth-5th grade), I have over 100 volunteers. They are the backbone of our ministry. There's no way that we could do two services and serve over 100 kids each Sunday without them. THANK YOU, volunteers!

patriotic things
Monday, I picked Ted up from preschool and he kept asking for his presents. I asked him why in the world he thought he was going to get presents today. He said, "Because it's presents day!" It was PRESIDENTS day and they had talked a little about presidents. I guess you have to speak VERY clearly and annunciate!
On Thursday, Ted's preschool class was invited to the Capitol to say the Pledge of Allegience for the opening of the legislature. They gave Ted an extra day of preschool to be able to go. Makes me feel better about paying for all those snow/sick days!
Anyways, it took me all day to realize that if they were going to say the pledge, that meant Ted probably knew it. So I asked him. He put his hand over his stomach and said it. There were a few mumblings here and there. But, by goly, he knew it! Again I say, WHO KNEW?

Super Why!
Super Why! was at the Clay Center today. It's a great show on PBS about 4 kids that turn into reading super hero types. Ted was a little apprehensive at them. But he gave them each five's and wanted his picture with Super Why! He got an Alpha Pig tatoo and told him. Alpha Pig gave Ted a big thumbs up which made his day.
Ted and I layed in bed tonight and he told me all about their costumes and what they had on them and what color. OBSERVANT!

Wonder Red & Alpha Pig
Then we went to play for awhile.

Sophie played in the balls for the 1st time. And tried to eat all of them. Yum! Germs . . .

Family Date Night
We had family date night last night. More or less b/c I didn't want to cook or find babysitting. We got out the old entertainment coupon book - that's how we determine where we go on dates - and hit Applebee's with a buy one, get on free dinner. We rarely take the kids out to a sit-down restaurant. So I was slightly apprehensive. But they were both GREAT! I'm not going to press my luck though.

They put Ted's grilled cheese order in first. When he was done eating, he played under the table. He drew with his crayons and wrote his name, sorted all the pink/blue/white sugar packets and was Sophie's personal toy picker up.

Sophie played with/dropped her toys. I gave her small pieces of bread which mostly ended up in her fists and in between her fingers. It made for long entertainment.

We went to Books-a-Million and played with the trains. Then came home for bathtime.
Ted got to help blow dry Sophie's hair. It really is worth the blow dry to avoid massive tangles in the morning.

Sophie and her prebath hair-do.
My laundry folding all over the living room.
Our dear friends the Sawhooks came to visit on Wednesday. Rachel has a new job - Family Ministry Director - so she came to share ideas. Rachel, I will email you these tomorrow and do our to do list. Not working on the weekends! =)
Jaxen & Sophie - Jaxen is 3 weeks younger that Sophie.
Ted & Kennedy - Kennedy and Ted are a year apart. Rachel babysat Ted 2 days a week last school year before the babies and before they moved to Charlotte.
Sophie putting her wrestling moves on Jaxen.
Ted filling out his "balentime's" for his classmates. He wrote his name on each one and asked what their names started with. He did all of them and picked out the tattoo.

Happy Balentime's Day
Ben and I got burned last year on Valentine's Day - a childcare switch and going out too late landed us a Penn Station (glorified Subway) for dinner. We learned our lesson. So we did our Valentine's this past Sunday. We had a gift card to a NICE restaurant in Charleston and then went to Mountain Stage. For anyone who loves music, you really need to go sometime. We spent $100 on dinner - salad alone was $17!!! Thank the Lord for the gift card!
It's been a long, busy and stressful week for Ben. So we decided to just hang today. Ted got a gift card from Doh and some $ from Grandma in the mail yesterday. So Ben took Ted to IHOP for breakfast and then to WalMart to spend his money. Ted decided on a fire truck. He's played with it all day and saved everyone in the family and all his little people.

We went to the mall in the evening. All I wanted for Valentine's Day (besides my lovely poem on Facebook) was a blizzard. We've been eating healthy lately - and it's really paying off - and my biggest sacrifice has been ice cream. I thought I could splurge. Glad I did!

pre electricity
I'm a wimp. I would've never made it when there was no such thing as electricity. Or indoor bathrooms. Maybe even the computer and the internet!
I digress. Wednesday evening, severe storms came through and we lost our electric around 6:00 pm. We have one flashlight and no candles - well prepared, I know. I took the kids to YL club although they ended up cancelling, and then to a basketball game until bedtime. In the morning, Ben had a meeting at his office (also no electricity) and wanted to go early to prepare. May I remind you that we only had one flashlight. The past week we've been having to drag ourselves out of bed every morning. But with no electric, we're up at 5:15!!
Anyways, our electric came back on around noon. Adrienne still doesn't have power as of Friday night. Someone always has it worse.

Random Stuff
- Noah has come to live at our house. Or should I say no-a. Why-a? To-a. I know-a. GRRR.
- Sophie now says "dadadadada." Still no crawling. But ever closer.
- Millie's birthday was February 5th. I told Ted she was turning 6. He was ready for an all out party and rather disappointed that we didn't have one.
- Ted had is 3 year old well visit last week.
* He got a shot and didn't cry.
* I took both kids so when Dr. Goliath asked how long Ted had been snotty, I could say, "They've both had it since the weekend." Worked like a charm and he gave a listen to Sophie. Both ended up on breathing treatments.
* I will never take more than 1 child to the doctor at a time.
* When asked about his diet, I told them he really likes vegetables. They asked about fruit. I said, "bananas, grapes . . . " and Ted chimed in, "and fruit snacks."
* Ted is in the 90th percentile for weight and 95th percentile for height.
- When I got to preschool today, Ted was sound asleep on the floor. He's NEVER done anything like that in his life. Twice when he's been really sick he's fallen asleep on the recliner. Other than that, if he's not in the car or in a bed, he doesn't sleep. He puked in the car on the way home - that is about the 7th time he's done that. Sat in the recliner for about 30 minutes and then begged for a granola bar and other such snacks. After his nap, he was a complete maniac. He spent more time in time out than out. Ben asked if I gave him any medicine. I didn't. But he's been fine since about 30 minutes after we got home. Weird.

Picture Review
It's been a busy (when we're not snowbound) 2 weeks. Here's the last two weeks in picture review in no particular order . . .

We hit Chuck E Cheese's one night when the weather wasn't particularly great. Which meant we had the place all to ourselves. Here's Ted hiding behind Emily Santen when Chuck came out for a visit.

Sophie has a new hair do. She was taking the barrettes out herself - which probably isn't good. It looks cute from the front. But the back looks slightly like a mullet. So we'll just show the front shots!

The snowman Ted and Ben made last week fell over the next day b/c it rained and rained and rained and rained. Ted really wanted to fix it. He thoughts tape would work just fine.

Ted & Sophie hanging together.

Sophie has a new fish face - the real deal. She can suck those fat little cheeks in. I've spent all week trying to capture it in photo. This is the closest I could get which really doesn't do her fish face justice. I'll keep trying.

Ted's new fashion includes his snowboots. It's kind of like the Uggs that the girls wear with jeans, skirts, sweatpants, etc. Ted wears them with pants, sweats, jeans, pj's, football pants, underwear . . .

Ted got some new silly glasses. Sophie doesn't like them so much. But she sure is cute in them. Again, she's way to fast and this was the best I could get.
This week we also had Ted's 3 year old well visit at the pediatrician, Sophie said her first "words," Noah became a permanent fixture in our house, and something else but I can't remember right now. All to come later . . . oh the suspense!
