double digits for soph

Welp, that's it. My baby turned 10. My strong, funny, kind, creative, spunky baby. My best girl, as I tell her every night. There's something about everyone in our house being double digits. It changes things. I'm not exactly sure how. It's probably mostly mental on my part. Things just feel different.

I appreciate where Sophie's birthday falls. It makes it easy to remember. One summer and one school year. Boom!

So, here's some highlights (and some hard things) from year 9:

aunt sara teaching her to sew  • growing out her bangs • short hair again • glasses • sitting in the front seat • girls on the run • 5k • getting the teacher she wanted  • then she went on maternity leave • standing on the picket lines • saranac • the water weenie • a rough class this year at school • the beach • slime (all the slime) • sledding • crimped hair • code names with lily • christmas vacation at the theater • violin • listening to books • moving up a lot of reading levels • choir • harry potter • bee stings • sewing machine & lessons • chinese lanterns • that one hike in the arboretum • kayaking • wilson ward • kids read truth •

We spent her birthday weekend at the river.

Grandma did a scavenger hunt for her.

We sang happy birthday....

and wore crowns.

Then we hit the road to New Martinsville to celebrate with Doh and Pap and share birthday parties with Isaac (2 days apart).

On the way, I asked Sophie, "What did you ask for on your cake this year?" She said, "You'll see. And you'll also see what's inside."

Doh outdid herself this time. Big time.

Sophie and Lily decided they wanted to get their nails done and go to the tea shop for their birthdays (which are 2 days apart). (We have a string of family birthdays at the end of May.) So we let them get all gussied up in the dress of their choice and we took them to the beauty college.

Sophie is wearing my junior prom dress circa 1997. My sister altered it several years ago to be more size appropriate. Lily is wearing her mom's Easter dress circa 1988. Sophie also wore my high heels which she swears fit her. They do not.

To their surprise, they got their hair, make-up AND nails done! It's quite the package deal.

Then we headed down to the Tea Shoppe for afternoon tea service. SO MUCH FUN!

The girls opted for lemonade but still enforced the pinkie rule.

It was the best afternoon. And one we would like to make tradition.

And as tradition goes, Sophie's cakes over the years.

Happy 10th Birthday to my best girl!
